A striking and rare example of early Spanish tin-glazed earthenware, this authentic 16th-century Hispano-Moresque dish was made in Manises, Valencia, a renowned centre of ceramic production in Renaissance Spain. Decorated in rich copper lustre with cobalt blue highlights, the dish reflects the intricate Moorish influence on Iberian art during the late Gothic and early Renaissance periods.
This generously sized dish (17” / 43 cm in diameter) features classic stylised floral and geometric motifs and is pierced with two original suspension holes – typical of 16th-century wall-hung chargers.
Despite age-related wear and an old break that has been carefully repaired, it remains a beautiful and historically significant display piece. The presence of original cobalt blue decoration and the larger size are especially desirable to collectors and institutions.
