This 1960s coffee service was designed by John Cuffley (assistant to Susan Williams-Ellis) and introduced in 1968 . Each piece features a striking stylized gold phoenix (rooster) motif on a matte black ceramic background, printed in metallic gold, platinum, and copper luster for a glamorous effect . The bold contrast and abstract detail make this set a true mid-century modern statement piece – perfect for display or functional use in your home.
This set includes:
• Tall Coffee Pot with Lid – A dramatic centerpiece with a long elegant spout and angular handle (approx. 13″ tall / 33 cm). The pot is decorated with two golden phoenix birds and topped with a tall finial lid, exemplifying Portmeirion’s iconic 1960s style .
• Six Coffee Cups and Saucers – Cylindrical espresso-sized cups (approx. 3.25″ / 8 cm tall) in matte black with a gold phoenix on each, paired with matching plain black saucers (~5.5″ / 14 cm diameter) . The cups’ interiors are also black, highlighting the brilliant exterior gilded design.
